Harpal told the police that on May 2, he heard someone shouting in the neighbouring house of Gurbinder Singh. He said he, along with his aunt, went there and found that Gurbinder and Rajbir Singh were arguing with each other.

He said when he tried to intervene, Rajbir started abusing him. The complainant said thereafter, they returned home.

He said enraged over this, Rajbir shouted at them and threatened him for intervening in the fight between two brothers.
