The city police reportedly detained a person on Monday evening for demanding extortion from former MLA Amarpal Singh Bony. The suspect has been identified a resident of Jalandhar. It is learned that Rs 2.5 lakh extortion money was demanded to be deposited in the suspect’s bank account.

Some unidentified suspect had demanded Rs 5 lakh from former Akali MLA Amarpal Singh Bony by threatening to kill him on a WhatsApp call a few days ago. The accused had given a bank account to the former MLA while threatening him of dire consequences.

When the police checked the bank account, it turned out to be a resident of Jalandhar. Now, the police are trying to find out what was the role of the detained suspect. It is also being ascertained that how many bank transactions were made from that particular account. It is also possible that the said account may have been opened in the name of a detained person without his knowledge.

It is worth mentioning here that on June 17, some unidentified persons called the former MLA and identified himself as Bhinda. The accused said he was associated with the notorious gangster — Lawrence Bishnoi.
