A man was duped of Rs 3.85 lakh on the pretext of doubling the amount. Acting on a complaint lodged by Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Aladinpur village, Joginder Singh, DSP, cybercrime, registered a case against Marutanjai Swain, a resident of Bilipalada, Cuttack, Orissa.

The victim told the police that the swindler contacted him on his mobile phone and lured him on the pretext of doubling his money. The suspect asked the victim to transfer Rs 3.85 lakh in his account. The victim said the swindler neither doubled the amount nor returned his money.

The Sadar police have registered a case under Sections 420 and 120-B of the BNS, and Section 43 of the IT Act on Thursday in this connection. Inspector Sukhbir Singh of the cybercrime branch is investigating the case.
