Man held for raping, impregnating minor

The Goindwal Sahib police on Saturday arrested one Gurdev Singh on the charge of sexually abusing a teenage girl who is a student of Class IX. The victim is six months pregnant.

ASI Simarjit Kaur recorded the statement of the victim’s mother who said her daughter had been complaining of discomfort for the last few days. On recommendation of doctors, an ultrasound scan of the girl was conducted and her pregnancy was confirmed.

The vicitm’s mother told the police that the suspect, who had been sexually abusing her daughter, threatened to kill her if she disclosed anything about it to anybody. The police said the suspect was booked under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the POCSO Act.
