The police said the cartel was being operated from the US by Gurlal Singh, who hailed from Sarai village in Ajnala and his accomplice Vipul Sharma, a resident of Sonepat in Haryana.

“Acting on a tip-off that the duo had arranged a weapon consignment and delivered it to Guri, the CI wing arrested him from Ludhiana and confiscated five illegal pistols from him. With this, the CI successfully uncovered an illegal weapon smuggling module with links extending to the US,” said DGP Gaurav Yadav. As per preliminary investigations, Gurvinder is the brother-in-law of an infamous drug peddler Hardeep Singh, who escaped to the US in 2022.
