Investigating Officer ASI Jagtar Singh said that Paramjit Kaur, wife of the deceased, informed the police about the incident. She told the police that she, along with her husband Gurpreet Singh, son Amritpal Singh, and daughter Simranpreet Kaur, was returning to Tarn Taran from a family function at a marriage resort on Airport Road.

She said they had stopped their vehicle on the Verka Milk Plant flyover to wait for a relative. Paramjit Kaur reported that Gurpreet Singh had been suffering from depression and was undergoing treatment. He had also consumed alcohol, which led to a minor argument within the family.

In a fit of rage, Gurpreet Singh pulled out his licensed revolver. When Amritpal tried to stop him, a bullet struck the son in his right arm. Immediately after, Gurpreet Singh fired a shot at himself, resulting in his death on the spot.

Amritpal Singh was rushed to a private hospital for treatment. ASI Jagtar Singh said that a case has been registered on the statement of Paramjit Kaur. Further investigation is underway.
