According to the complaint lodged by Harinder Singh, father of the deceased, Sandeep had frequent quarrels with his wife Paramjit Kaur over domestic issues. After such disputes, she would often leave for her parental home, and her brothers – Satta and Aman – would allegedly threaten and abuse Sandeep.

Harinder Singh told the police that around a fortnight ago, Paramjit left Sandeep’s house along with their son and started living with her brothers. He alleged that the accused had again threatened Sandeep with dire consequences.

On Friday, while Sandeep was returning home from his shop, the accused allegedly intercepted him and attacked him with sharp-edged weapons, leaving him grievously injured. Harinder Singh and his nephew Gurmeet Singh rushed him to the Civil Hospital, Ajnala, where he succumbed to his injuries. Before his death, Sandeep reportedly named Satta and Aman as his assailants.

Harchand Singh, SHO, Ajnala police station, said the body was handed over to the family after a postmortem examination. “A case has been registered under Section 302 of the IPC and raids are being conducted to arrest the accused,” he added.

Further investigations are underway.
