Officials shared a detailed progress report of the waste-processing operations that began on October 1.
According to data presented during the inspection, the firm concerned has processed an average of 1,773 metric tonnes of waste per day between October 1 and December 9. On December 10 alone, 1,680 MT of legacy waste was bio-remediated.
With this, the total waste processed at the site stood at 80,666 MT till November 30, and increased to 98,396 MT by December 10.
Singh instructed the company to further accelerate the pace of bio-remediation, emphasising that the work must move faster to provide long-term environmental relief to the residents living around the dump site.
He directed Ecostan officials to deploy additional machinery and manpower wherever required to ensure uninterrupted daily processing. Strict adherence to sanitation and safety protocols was also stressed during the review.
Singh told officials that the project held importance for the city, as the dump site has been a source of air pollution, foul odour and fires for years.
He said timely completion of the bio-remediation work would help prevent recurring smoke incidents, and reduce health hazards faced by nearby localities. He added that the corporation would conduct regular monitoring to ensure that the agency met its daily targets.
Municipal officials said that the MC was committed to scientific waste management, continuous on-ground supervision and a phased elimination of old waste heaps. They said the aim was to transform the dump site into a safer, environmentally compliant zone.
