Amritsar MC seizes 350 kg single-use plastic in citywide crackdown

Acting on the directions of Commissioner Bikramjit Singh Shergill, teams of the health wing carried out simultaneous raids in all four zones.
In the north zone, a team led by Chief Sanitary Officer (CSO) Malkit Singh and Sanitary Inspectors Amandeep, Harinder Pal Singh and Amarik Singh, inspected shops on Majitha Road and confiscated 115 kg of plastic items. In the east and south zones, CSO Vijay Gill, along with Inspectors Ganesh Kumar and Anil Dogra, checked several restaurants and shops, seizing 95 kg plastic. During the operation, nine challans were issued under the single-use plastic ban, while three more were served under Section 323 of the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act.
Similarly, in the west zone, Inspectors Ravinder Kumar, Ashok Kumar, Barmdas, Davinder Kumar and Sham Singh carried out checks at commercial establishments and seized 80 kg plastic. In the central zone, CSO Ranjit Singh and his team, comprising Inspectors Tajinder Kumar, Gurpreet Singh, Dilbagh Singh, Rajan and Raman Kumar, raided Majith Mandi and seized 60 kg banned plastic bags and disposable items. Challans were issued to several shopkeepers found selling the material.
Commissioner Bikramjit Singh Shergill said the campaign is part of his priority to ensure holistic development of the holy city, with special focus on cleanliness, a robust sewerage system and complete enforcement of the plastic ban. “On Monday, our teams had seized 322 kg plastic and today, nearly 350 kg has been confiscated. The campaign will continue with full strictness,” he said.
