MC special camps till June 30 to regularise water connections

The Municipal Corporation Amritsar is organising special camps across the city’s four zones —western, southern, northern and eastern—from June 23 to June 30. These camps aim to regularise unauthorised water and sewerage connections and facilitate the payment of long-pending property tax without imposing any interest or penalties. The initiative is receiving an overwhelming response from the public.

According to the report shared by Nodal Officer and Assistant MC Commissioner Daljit Singh, approximately 125 unauthorised water and sewerage connections were regularised during the camps. In addition, 998 property tax returns were filed, resulting in a total recovery of over Rs 11.75 lakh which include Rs 1.75 lakh from water and sewerage connections and more than Rs 10 lakh from

property tax payments.

Additional MC Commissioner Surinder Singh stated that under government-sponsored projects like Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), new pipelines for water supply and sewerage were laid in the city’s outer areas. However, several residents took connections from these pipelines without official approval, leading to unbilled usage and

financial losses for the Municipal Corporation.

To avoid immediate disconnection of these unauthorised connections, the MC provided an opportunity for regularisation through these camps. Awareness campaigns were also launched to inform the public about the benefits of compliance, which helped in generating significant participation.

The camps were also aligned with the government’s One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme, which waives interest and penalties on overdue property taxes until July 31, 2025. Many residents availed this benefit during the camp period.

MC Commissioner Gulpreet Singh Aulakh urged all residents to take advantage of the ongoing camps, regularise any unauthorised water and sewer connections, and clear their property tax dues without penalty. He also warned that failing to do so may lead to disconnection of services in the future.
