The Amritsar Central Jail authorities have seized a mobile phone from a notorious smuggler, Mohammad Iqbal, who is a resident of Jammu and Kashmir. He was held by the State Special Operation Cell in September 2018.

According to information, the seizure was made following a tip-off. He had hidden the mobile phone in his slippers. A case under Section 42 of the Prisons Act has been registered against him.

The jail authorities also seized two iron pipes sharpened as weapons from two jail inmates, Bagga Singh of Bathinda and Avtar Singh of Jhitte Khurd village.

According to information, Bagga was lodged in Barrack number 4 while Avtar was lodged in barrack number 2. The two managed to get an iron rod from the jail premises. Two separate cases under Section 427 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 42 of the Prisons Act have been registered against them.
