MP Aujla: Form panel to look into pollution in Tung Dhab drain
Member of Parliament from Amritsar Gurjeet Singh Aujla today raised the issue of water pollution in Tung Dhab drain in Amritsar and Buddha Nullah of Ludhiana in Lok Sabha. He demanded that the government form a committee to take stock of the situation through visits of the elected representatives who are members of this panel. He also emphasised that due to toxicity in these water channels, lakhs of people are suffering.
Speaking in Parliament, Aujla said that the problem of polluted water is at its peak in Punjab. Industrial waste water, dairy residue and municipal waste are flowing into Tung Dhab drain in Amritsar and Buddha Nullah in Ludhiana, due to which the water is badly contaminated and cannot even be treated. He claimed that due to this, the number of cancer patients is increasing, especially in cities like Fazilka, Moga and Abohar. The MP alleged that the pollution control department was not doing anything, the drainage department was also silent and civic bodies were not taking the issue seriously.
