The Amritsar Police Commissionerate on Saturday claimed to have cracked a murder bid case while simultaneously busting a narcotics-cum-illegal arms supply module operating in the region.

Two accused, Sagar, a resident of Tangra in Tarn Taran, and Mandeep Kumar alias Kali of Gawal Mandi, have been arrested, leading to significant recoveries of heroin and weapons. Police said Sagar also originally hailed from Gawal Mandi, Amritsar.

The action began after the attempted murder of Kanoj Khosla in Gawal Mandi on July 14 this year. During the investigation, the police received intelligence inputs and subsequently conducted targeted raids, arresting the two accused from Tarn Taran on December 1.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Alam Vijay Singh said that during interrogation, both men admitted to their involvement in heroin supply in the region. “Acting on their disclosure, the police recovered over 1 kg of contraband, thereby cracking another case registered on December 3, 2025, under the NDPS Act at Cantonment police station,” he added.

Based on further disclosures, the police recovered three pistols, one 9 mm and two .32 bore, from a location identified by the accused. A supplementary disclosure by Mandeep Kumar alias Kali led to the recovery of another .32 bore pistol, taking the total number of recovered weapons to four.

The DCP said Mandeep Kumar alias Kali is a proclaimed offender in two NDPS cases. Background checks also revealed that both brothers of accused Sagar — Sahil alias Kalu and Akashdeep — are already lodged in connection with the seizure of commercial quantity heroin.

The DCP said Sagar has around six criminal cases, including those under the NDPS Act, while Mandeep has eight cases registered against him.
