On the eve of Avtar Purab of Guru Ramdas, a nagar kirtan was organised in the holy city on Monday.

Devotees made a beeline to pay their obeisance at the Golden Temple to the founder of the city. Heavy rush of devotees was seen in the Golden Temple complex in the wee hours to take the holy dip in the Amrit Sarovar.

About 100 artisans from Kolkata and Delhi decorated the temple complex with 30 tonne of flowers brought from different countries and regions of the world arranged by sangat from Mumbai.

The religious procession commenced from the Akal Takht after the performance of ‘ardas’. En-route nagar kirtan, shopkeepers had cleaned and beautified the stretch of roads in front of their shops and lit candles to welcome the procession.

A large number of langar stalls also dotted the route.

Employees of the SGPC tied ribbons over their turbans with ‘dhan dhan Sri Guru Ramdas Jee’ printed on these.

School bands, gatka parties, nihang groups and others took part in the nagar kirtan.

Akal Takht Jathedar Harpreet Singh, who participated in the Nagar Kirtan, congratulated the Sangat on the Avtar purab of the Guru Sahib.

At night, the entire Golden Temple complex was illuminated with decorated lights and the sanctum sanctorum was beautified with a variety of flowers brought here from different countries.
