Noted philanthropist Dr SPS Oberoi of the Sarbat Da Bhala Trust visited Tarn Taran district to express his grief to the family of Georgia gas tragedy, Sandeep Singh, on Friday.

Dr Oberoi expressed his anguish over officials of the district administration or representatives of the government failing to visit the family so far.

Dr Oberoi, on behalf of Sarbat Da Bhala Trust, announced a fixed deposit of Rs 2 lakh for the eight-year-old daughter of the deceased and a pension of Rs 5,000 per month for Baljit Kaur, widow of Sandeep Singh.

Dr Oberoi also announced to bear the expenditure incurred on education of the deceased’s daughter and repair of the family’s house which is in a dilapidated condition.

Dilbag Singh Yodha and other officer-bearers of the Trust were also present on the occasion.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
