Punjab State Food Commission member Preeti Chawla and Additional Deputy Commissioner Varinderpal Singh Bajwa conducted surprise visits to certain schools and Anganwadi centres of the district. They checked the conditions under which mid-day meals were being prepared and issued instructions to make these arrangements better.

The officials visited the government schools and the Anganwadi centres in Mallia, Chutala, Rasulpur and other villages and stressed the need for regular medical check-up of Anganwadi workers and passed instructions that they be made aware of good hygiene practices such as clipping nails regularly. They also instructed the school heads to mention this in the records register.

The officials checked the quality of the mid-day meals and the state of cleanliness of kitchens and washrooms. The team stressed that clothes must be sanitised and exhaust fans installed in kitchens.
