Amritsar: Officials pledge united effort to support flood-affected families

Officials from various departments unanimously decided to help flood-affected families under Mission Sanjha Uparala during a meeting held under the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) here on Monday.

Chairing the meeting, Member of Parliament Gurjeet Singh Aujla said, “It is our duty to help the people in the flood-affected areas. The biggest need at the moment is to support the affected people and rehabilitate them.”

Aujla asked officials to plant trees on riverbanks to ensure that, if such a situation arises in the future, the flow of water can be reduced. He urged agriculture officials to personally visit the flood-affected areas and resolve the problems faced by farmers on a priority basis. He stated that no delay in development works would be tolerated.

He said all development works should be completed within the stipulated time.

During the meeting, the progress of the National Health Mission, Swachh Bharat Mission, Aajivika Mission, Pradhan Kaushal Vikas Yojana, Soil Health Card, National Rural Drinking Water Programme, Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao, and various other schemes was also reviewed.

Addressing the meeting, Mayor Jatinder Singh Moti Bhatia said all roads in the city will be repaired by October 15. He asked officials to ensure the maintenance of machinery so that it can be used in the future, if needed.

Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney said that under Mission Sanjha Uparala, which is being run by the district administration to help those affected by the floods, efforts are underway to rehabilitate affected families with the help of various voluntary organisations.

She said the administration is continuously working in the flood-affected areas, where the Health Department is conducting fogging and spraying operations in the villages, and all medical services are being provided. Apart from this, free green fodder for animals is being provided, and suitable arrangements have been made for the treatment of

animals.

Municipal Corporation Commissioner Bikram Jeet Singh Shergill, Additional Deputy Commissioner Paramjit Kaur, SDM Ajnala Ravinder Singh, SDM Lapoke Sanjeev Kumar, DCP Vijay Alam Singh, and officers from various departments were also present.
