Pakistan-linked heroin network busted in Amritsar, woman among 3 arrested

The Amritsar police on Saturday arrested a woman and two others during a search and naka operation, leading to the recovery of 3.120 kg of heroin.

The drug network was allegedly operating under the direction of Pakistan-based smugglers.

Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that during routine field surveillance and naka checking near Silver Stone School, Krishna Nagar, Mohkampura, police personnel spotted a woman attempting to flee after throwing a suspicious packet upon seeing the team.

She was intercepted and identified as Harpreet Kaur, a resident of Tungpai in Mohkampura. Six packets of heroin, weighing a total of 3.120 kg, were recovered from her possession.

A case was registered under Sections 21-C, 29, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Mohkampura.

During interrogation, Harpreet Kaur (23) disclosed the involvement of four others — Muskan (18), Neeraj Sharma (22), both of Tungpai, Arshdeep Singh Bhaini of Rajputa village, and her husband Sagar of Tungpai — in the drug supply network.

Acting swiftly, police traced and arrested Muskan and Neeraj Sharma. The two are siblings, while Harpreet Kaur is their sister-in-law. Officials noted that the women were strategically used in the network to evade suspicion.

Investigations further revealed that the accused were working under a Pakistan-based handler and tasked with delivering heroin consignments further.

Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining accused, and the network’s Pakistan-based links are being probed, added the Police Commissioner.
