Senior police authorities, including Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar and Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Vishaljit Singh, reached the spot and started investigations.

Forensic teams have been examining the scene to ascertain the type of explosion, Bhullar said.

“We are yet to find out whether it was actually an explosion. Police teams are on the job and CCTV cameras in the area are being examined to find clues,” he said.

ADCP Vishaljit said, “We cannot clear at the moment whether it was an explosion or not.”

The Gurbax Nagar police station was among several police stations which was shut down last year though the building was still in possession of the police.

A permanent naka was established at the spot after the police station was shut down there.

Subhash Kapoor, a local resident, said that the explosion occurred at around 3 am. The people got frightened after the incident, he added.
