The All India Congress Committee (Kisan Congress) has approached Akal Takht to summon former Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh, under whose term pardon was granted to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim in a series of sacrilege cases.

The dera chief and his allies have been nominated as the accused in the chargesheet filed by the Punjab Police in a case related to the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib in 2015.

In a letter addressed to Akal Takht’s officiating Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh, AICC (Kisan Congress) national coordinator Pritpal Singh Baliawal said Giani Gurbachan Singh should be questioned on why and on whose instance the dera chief was pardoned.

He also demanded scrutinising the role of the SGPC, which had spent “golak” money to the tune of Rs 95 lakh to release advertisements in leading dailies to justify the exoneration of the dera chief.
