The Pathankot Municipal Corporation (MC) on Monday celebrated International Youth Day by taking school students to waste processing units so that they could understand the concept of waste management and subsequently put it to use in their daily lives.

Sandeep Gautam, Solid Waste Management (SWM) expert, and Janu Chalhotra, Assistant Health Officer (AHO) of the MC, conceived and executed the idea of letting children learn new things about waste management following the guidelines issued by the Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Corporation (PMIDC). Students of Shaheed Makhan Singh Senior Secondary School were taken to the MC’s Material Recovery Facility (MRF). The children were told how compost is prepared from wet waste. Students were also exhorted not to use plastic bags.
