Amritsar, March 7
The Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers’ Union (PCCTU) on Sunday held an emergency meeting here to strategise next course of action in support of their demands.
In the inaugural session, Dr Rajesh Kumar, Principal, DAV College, addressed the house and appraised the working of Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers’ Union. He shared various issues of the government-aided colleges like fall in student strength of colleges, policy of the university regarding admission of students in the undergraduate courses in the university campus and its constituent colleges. It also chalked out further strategies against alleged callous attitude of the government regarding just and genuine demands of teaching fraternity working in various colleges of the state.
In the meeting, salary issue related to Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College, Sarhali, was discussed and members unanimously decided to extend their full support to the Sarhali unit. Further, Dr BB Yadav, area secretary, GNDU, has been given the responsibility to explore the possibilities to resolve the matter. The teachers working in DAV Colleges raised the issue of financial benefits to the covered and uncovered staff as the DAV College Managing Committee is trying to create a differentiation between the two segments through principals. The executive committee took a serious note of the same and directed Dr BB Yadav, convener, DAV Colleges Coordination Committee, to raise the issue with the Director, Higher Education, DAVCMC, New Delhi.
The salary issue of Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women was also discussed in detail. The executive committee members with one voice criticised the move of different managements on salary issues saying that it is the sole responsibility of the parent institution.
The meeting was concluded by the president, PCCTU, Dr Vinay Sophat, with a statement that the PCCTU will always fight for the rights and dignity of the teaching fraternity.
The other office-bearers of the executive committee were Dr Sukhdev Singh Randhawa, general secretary PCCTU; Dr Ghansham Sharma and Dr Surjeet Singh, area secretary Panjab University, were present in the meeting.
