An old enmity of Harjit Singh and Sanju with the armed assailants was stated to be the reason behind the incident. Veenu along with Harjit and Sanju was going towards Gate Hakima police station side. The three youths travelling on two bikes were chasing them.

Sensing trouble, Veenu turned the car towards Gate Hakima police station. When they tried to rush inside the police station to save themselves the accused fired at them. A bullet hit Veenu who was later rushed to the hospital with the help of police. The doctors declared him dead.
