Amritsar Hooch tragedy: Police remand of 10 accused extended
After the expiry of their police remand, the police produced 11 accused in a local court, which extended their custody by four days, while Ninder Kaur, the only woman arrested, was sent to judicial custody owing to her old age.Twenty seven persons had died in multiple villages in the Majitha sub-division after consuming spurious liquor.The police have registered an FIR on charges of murder, attempt to murder and culpable homicide, not amounting to murder, against the accused.
Among those booked included prime accused Sahib Singh, Prabhjit Singh, Kulbir Singh, Gurjant Singh, Sikander Singh, Sahib Singh, alias Saba, Ludhiana traders Pankaj Kumar, alias Sahil, and Arvinder Kumar, Navdeep Singh, Paramjit Singh Pamma and Ninder Kaur. They were produced before the court on Friday.
The police had booked 18 persons in the case, out of whom 16 were arrested. Raids were on to arrest the remaining accused at large.
Investigations revealed that Sahib Singh had procured methanol from Ludhiana traders and later supplied it to Prabhjit Singh for further distribution as spurious liquor after dilution.
A police official revealed that Sahib Singh had allegedly procured the methanol on the pretext of preparing soaps and paints. He had ordered the same on WhatsApp.
