Police seize 10-kg heroin, Rs 4.45L drug money from separate areas

In the first case, the CI confiscated 5 kg of heroin along with Rs 4.45 lakh of drug money from their possession and arrested three persons in this connection. In the second, the city police seized 5 kg of heroin from three persons.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said in an intelligence-based operation, the CI, Amritsar, arrested Husanpreet Singh, a resident of Prime City in Chheharta area, Karandeep Singh, aka Manna, and Maninder Singh of the Attari grain market. He said the CI got a tip-off that Karandeep and Maninder were involved in trans-border drug peddling and that they had recently retrieved a huge consignment of drugs dropped by drones. They were going to deliver the same to Husanpreet Singh.

The informer told the police that they were going towards the Punjabi Bagh marriage resort on the Amritsar-Attari road following which a naka was put up there and a bike-borne person was intercepted. He was later identified as Husanpreet Singh and two other accused were also nabbed from the spot who had come to hand over the drugs to him. During their quizzing and search, the police seized the contraband and the drug money from them.

The police also impounded their scooter and motorcycle from the spot. The DGP said further investigation was underway to establish their forward and backward linkages and identify the Pakistani smugglers who supplied the drugs.

Meanwhile, the city police made another drug seizure by seizing 5 kg of heroin from three members of cross-border drug peddling network. They were identified as Harpartap Singh, alias Happy (29), of Rorewali village, Karandeep Singh (21) of Nagal Sohal village and Jagpreet Singh (19) of Dharamkot Randhawa village in Batala. Apart from recovering the heroin consignment, police teams impounded their motorcycle, which they were riding, said Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar.

He said the police have reliable inputs that some persons had received a drug consignment from an unknown person from Fatehgarh Churian area and were coming towards the Verka bypass on their motorcycle. Acting swiftly, police teams arrested the accused persons from near Escort Hospital area in Amritsar. The drugs were smuggled through Mehadipur village.

He said all the three suspects were friends and their villages are located in Dera Baba Nanak border belt. Harpartap was the kingpin and he became active in cross-border drug smuggling around two and a half months ago. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act by the Sadar police station here.
