Police tell owners: Deposit more than two weapons on one licence

The Police Commissioner has asked the armed licence holders to deposit their more than two weapons as the Department of Home Affair and Justice, Government of India, has issued notification about the fresh amendments in the Arms Act 1959. It has been amended that the a ammunition licence holder can hold a maximum of two firearms on his ammunition licence.
Jagmohan Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Amritsar, said all the licence holders of the Amritsar Police Commissionerate, who have more than two firearms on their weapons licenses, deposit the additional one with the area police station or sell them off to an authorised firearms dealer.
He called the licence holders to contact officials of the licensing branch of the police regarding the disposal or sale of these weapons. “In case of any negligence, the concerned licence holders will be responsible for it and action will be taken as per law”, added Singh.
In addition, Jagmohan Singh held a meeting with Narinder Singh, ACP, Licensing and Security, Paramjit Singh, in-charge licensing branch, and owners of authorised gun houses in Amritsar.
The police issued directions to the arm dealers to make sufficient security arrangements at their gunhouse and deployment of security personnel for the protection of weapon storerooms. The police also asked to install CCTV cameras and security alert system at their gunhouses. Apart from this, police officials also instructed to keep the record of sold firearms to prevent any kind of untoward incident.
