Issuing an advisory on coronavirus, the district Health Department has asked residents to take precautions but not to panic. The department has also released a poster that will create awareness about the symptoms and treatment of the disease.

Releasing the poster, Civil Surgeon Dr Prabhdeep Kaur Johal said people should not believe in unauthentic messages being circulated on social media with the sole purpose of spreading misinformation and creating panic.

Dr Johal said any person with a travel history to China should report to the health authorities for screening. The Civil Surgeon said, “We have set up thermal screening centres at the airport and the international checkpost in Attari to check the coronavirus. Besides, isolation wards have also been set up at hospitals.”

She advised people to wear face masks, wash hands with soap after regular intervals and avoid visiting crowded places. She also advised people to prefer home-cooked food.

The Civil Surgeon said symptoms of coronavirus, including fever, cough, cold and difficulty in breathing, were similar to other viral infections.
