The spokesman informed that the complainant alleged that the accused demanded a bribe of ~1,00,000 for slashing a fine of Rs 6,00,000 lakh imposed on the complainant. He said the accused had earlier taken Rs 50,000 as first installment of the bribe money.

He added that after a preliminary inquiry, VB laid a trap during which Ranjit Singh was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs.25,000 in the presence of two official witnesses. He said a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered at the VB police station, Amritsar. The accused would be produced in a competent court tomorrow.
