Frustrated with police inaction in several criminal cases in their area, public leaders associated with various organisations in Ajnala have warned that they will stage a massive protest in front of the SSP Amritsar Rural office if victims are not provided with speedy justice.

The announcement was made during a special public meeting held in Ajnala under the leadership of social worker Hardeep Singh Bagga.

The meeting was attended by leaders of the Joint Platform of Mass Organisations (JPMO), including Dr Satnam Singh, convenor of the JPMO. Dr Singh said the Bhagwant Mann-led state government had promised, at a programme in Khatkar Kalan, that there would be no place for corruption in civil and police administration and that drug-related crimes would be completely curbed.

The leaders cited instances of police officers accepting bribes and highlighted cases where justice has yet to be delivered, including the murderous attack on Jagga Singh Dalla, president of the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Youth Association, and the alleged rape of Harpreet Kaur, where the accused are reportedly being shielded by the police.

Prominent attendees at the meeting included Jagga Singh Dalla, singer Gurpal Gill, former Sarpanch Inderjit Singh Anaitpura, Harnek Singh and several others.
