Punjab Police bust cross-border smuggling racket, seize 30 kg heroin in Amritsar
The Amritsar Rural Police on Friday claimed to have busted a cross-border narcotics smuggling racket with the arrest of one smuggler and the seizure of 30 kg of heroin in the Gharinda police station area.
According to Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, the heroin was seized following the arrest of a cross-border drug peddler, identified as Simran Singh of Basarke Gillan village.
The arrested accused was involved in large-scale heroin smuggling, and it was reported that he had recently received a consignment of heroin smuggled via drone across the border. The drugs were hidden in a car, the DGP said.
“In an intelligence-led operation, Amritsar Rural police busts a cross-border smuggling racket and apprehends one drug smuggler and recovers 30 kilogrammes of heroin along with one car. Drones were used to transport (the) drugs from Pakistan,” DGP Yadav said in a post on X.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against the accused and further investigation is on to bust the entire nexus, he said.
