Government, NGOs and other organisations continue to provide relief to flood victims of Ajnala. A helipcopter was also pressed into service to air drop relief material in food-affected areas.

Celebrities and politicians are coming forward to help the needy. Today, trolleys loaded with relief goods were heading from all over Punjab to Ajnala.

While big names and organisations are coming forward to provide relief to the flood-affected people across Punjab, families from the constituency are also coming forward to help the needy. Today, farmer Angrez Singh of village Othian voluntarily reached the SDM office in Ajnala and handed over a cheque for Rs 1.10 lakh to Amritsar Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney.

Rajya Sabha MP Dr Vikramjit Singh Sawhney today visited the flood-affected areas and donated relief material, including motorboats, ambulances for medical aid, ration and hygiene kits, sanitary pads and fodder for livestock. Dozens of trucks carrying relief material were flagged off from the city by Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney.

Motorboats will be delivered at Chak Phoole village followed by relief material at Ajnala centre and Sakinala, Chamiari and Ramdas villages.

MLA from Baba Bakala assembly constituency Dalbir Singh Tong, with the help of the residents of his area, distributed two trucks of animal feed. They visited Gaggomahal village with 450 bags of feed, enough for the needy cattle owners. He said in future also, they will continue to provide all kinds of assistance to put this constituency back on its feet.

Dr Ajay Kumar Gupta, MLA from Amritsar Central constituency, along with his supporters, visited Ramdass and served langar to the flood victims. He also prayed at Gurdwara Baba Buddha Ji Ramdass on the occasion. Dr Gupta said with the help of people of his constituency, he rendered service. On the occasion, he also distributed drinking water, cold drinks, mosquito repellents and medicines among the needy. Dr Gupta said the entire Punjabi community will unite and help their brethren overcome the crisis.

Bibi Kaulan Ji Charitable Hospital, under Bhai Guriqbal Singh and Bhai Harvinderpal Singh, flagged off the third consignment of relief material for flood victims today. They informed that with the support of the Sangat, about 2,000 langar packets have been prepared and sent. Tomorrow, fodder, cattle feed and tarpaulins will also be sent.

AAP’s Halqa in-charge for Majitha Talbir Singh Gill reached Ajnala Mandi where a relief centre has been set up and distributed 350 tarpaulins. He announced that he would adopt five villages in the affected area in which the needs of all would be taken care of. He said that the district administration should give them five affected villages in the constituency and they will prepare a list of each needy house in those villages and provide relief material as per their needs.

He appealed to more generous donors to reach the villages to help the needy. Two days ago, Gill had also handed over a cheque for Rs five lakh to the Red Cross in Amritsar for the assistance of flood victims.

The office-bearers of Service Club, Amritsar Club and Lumsden Club, also reached Ajnala and handed over cheques for Rs three lakh to the Deputy Commissioner to help in relief work.

Congress leader Dinesh Bassi today urged the Centre to grant relief package to help flood victims. The floods in parts of Punjab have severely impacted Amritsar and nearby villages. Water has entered homes, disrupting daily life and farmlands have been completely ravaged. He pointed out that the breach in Dhussi dam on the Ravi river has caused massive destruction in the villages of Amritsar. Many homes have been submerged, fields have been ruined, and the lives of people have been thrown into disarray.
