The randomisation of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to be used in the by-election for Tarn Taran assembly constituency was done today under the leadership of District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner, Tarn Taran, Rahul, as per the instructions of the Election Commission of India. This entire process was carried out in the presence of representatives of political parties. On the occasion, Election Tehsildar Arminderpal Singh, Nodal Officer (EVM) Tajinder Singh Aulakh from the Horticulture Department, besides the representatives of political parties — Mandeep Singh Gill from Aam Aadmi Party, Vivek Agarwal from Bharatiya Janata Party, Barkat Singh from the Indian National Congress, Amritpal Singh from Bahujan Samaj Party and Charanpreet Singh from the Shiromani Akali Dal — were present.

While randomising the electronic voting machines, District Election Officer Rahul said that there are a total of 222 polling stations in the assembly constituency of Tarn Taran and 120 per cent Ballot Unit (BU) and Control Unit (CU) and 130 per cent VVPAT machines have been given out of the number of polling booths in the constituency so that they have a reserve quota in case of any machine malfunctioning. He said that tomorrow (October 17), these electronic voting machines will be handed over to the Returning Officer of the Tarn Taran assembly constituency which will be kept under strict security arrangements at the International School of Nursing, Piddi. He said that as per the instructions of the Election Commission, the by-election will be conducted in a free and peaceful atmosphere.
