Restaurant owner gets extortion call

The accused demanded Rs 50 lakh in extortion money from him. The police have registered a case against Tangra and launched further probe.
The victim stated to the police that he first received a call on his WhatsApp number from a virtual number on October 8 and then on several occasions. He said initially, he did not take the calls seriously, but when he repeatedly got the calls, he became frightened. The latest call was received on Tuesday. He said the accused now threatened to kill him in case he failed to cough up the money.
Tejinder Singh, investigating officer, said that a case has been registered and further investigations are in progress.
A senior police official said that Gagandeep Singh aka Daddi Tangra has around 15 criminal cases against him at various police stations including that of extortion.
"He has been evading arrest for the past several years while efforts were on to nab him," he said.
