The Agriculture Department has asked basmati growers to not use the banned chemicals on the crop considering its export value. Chief Agriculture Officer (CAO) Dr Tajinder Singh said the government had earlier banned 10 chemicals — acephate, buprofenzin, chloropyriphos, methamidophos, propioconazole, thaimethoxam, profenofos, isoprothiolane, carbendazim and tricyclazole.

The CAO urged dealers, distributors and agro chemical companies to not sale or store the banned chemicals. Any violation would attract action under the Insecticides Act, 1968, and Insecticide Rules 1971.
