Robbers decamped with Rs 21.50 lakh after breaking open an ATM on the main Amritsar-Delhi GT Road in Beas here late last night. According to the police, the miscreants used gas cutters for breaking open the ATM.

The police have registered a case against the unidentified robbers and started investigation. The police have been examining CCTV cameras in the area to identify the suspects.

The incident came to light when a PCR team found the shutters of the ATM open. As per information, the suspects first sprayed paint on the CCTV camera in the ATM cabin before cutting the ATM with the gas cutters. They sounded an alert after which senior police officials reached the spot. Later, the bank authorities said around Rs 21.50 lakh was available in the ATM.

Vikram Jeet Duggal, SSP Amritsar (rural), said investigations were on to identify the suspects.

He said police teams were scrutinising the CCTV camera footage in nearby areas to find clues about the miscreants.
