Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal has called on party workers to be prepared to work day and night to secure the victory of Sukhwinder Kaur, the party’s candidate for the forthcoming Tarn Taran Vidhan Sabha by-election, which is expected to be announced by the Election Commission of India shortly.

Addressing a gathering of party workers in Tarn Taran on Saturday, Badal said he would personally meet workers at the booth level and take up permanent residence in the constituency from August 20.

In his address, Badal said that since the demolition of the Babri Masjid, no Muslim has attended a BJP rally, yet it was “a matter of grave concern” that Sikhs continued to be associated with the Congress party, which, he alleged, had been responsible for the demolition of the holy Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

Others who spoke on the occasion included Gurzar Singh Ranike, SGPC member Alwinder Pal Singh, Iqbal Singh Sandhu, and Gaurav Singh Valtoha.
