Samyukt Kisan Morcha makes toll plazas free for public for three hours
Amritsar, February 15
The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) of farm unions today made toll plazas free for the general public to protest against the Haryana Government for its highhandedness against farmers. The SKM has also given a call for Bharat Bandh on Friday.
SKM leader Lakhbir Singh Nizampura said the decision to free toll plazas for three hours was taken at an emergency meeting of the executive body. Nizampura said the protest was held from 12 pm to 3 pm.
“The Punjab Government too has failed to protect farmers. The Haryana Police is using drones in Punjab and the state government is a mere spectator,” said Nizampura.
Farmer leaders Rattan Singh Randhawa and Jatinder Singh Chinna and others criticised the Central Government for its failure to fulfil the already accepted demands. “If the government had kept its promises, there was no need for farmers to stage protest,” Randhawa said, while adding that they demand that all promises made to the SKM were fulfilled.
Jatinder Singh Chinna said all preparations for the Bharat Bandh had been made. He said several trade unions, traders’ associations and employee unions had supported farmers’demands. Bharat Bandh would be observed peacefully, he added.
