Sandhu highlights growing poor sanitary conditions in holy city

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former US Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu expressed concern over environmental pollution by posting photographs and videos of garbage scattered along the heritage Ramtirath Road in Amritsar. This marks the first time Sandhu has raised a civic issue since the Lok Sabha elections ended. He also proposed utilising technology to address the problem in a separate social media post.

Sharing images of garbage dumped on the roadside at Ramtirath Road, Sandhu demanded action from the current government. “Heaps of garbage lie on the historic Ramtirath Road, and similar conditions exist elsewhere in the city, posing severe health risks to locals, including children. It’s time for those in positions of responsibility to take action,” Sandhu stated.

Sandhu added that this issue can be resolved through technology and expertise, citing examples from cities such as Indore and other international cities. “It’s time for Amritsar’s responsible authorities to look into these examples,” he added.

Notably, before the Lok Sabha elections, Sandhu had criticised Amritsar’s poor sanitation conditions, promising to prioritise addressing these issues. However, he lost the election and took a break of few months from local politics. Now, recently he again become active in the local politics and rising issues of sanitation and other problems being faced by the residents.
