Following recent reshuffle of senior Punjab Police officials, Satinder Singh, SSP Amritsar (Rural), who was recently promoted, joined as DIG (Border range) here today.
Before joining, senior police officials from the four border districts, including Amritsar (Rural), Batala, Gurdaspur and Pathankot, accorded him a warm welcome. The Punjab Police personnel presented a guard of honour at his office in the Ranjit Avenue area here.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the Punjab Police was committed to provide a transparent and people-friendly policing apart from maintaining the law and order and counter the rampant drug abuse and cross border drug trafficking in the border belt.
“The Punjab Police, along with paramilitary force and other sister agencies, have been working in tandem to nail criminals and prevent trans-border drug and weapons smuggling,” he said.
He said the police would act as second line of defence after the Border Security Force (BSF) along the international border. He said, “We have planned special nakas and shifting checkpoints in order to nab drug traffickers to retrieve narcotics smuggled by their Pakistan- based accomplices.”
“Being a border belt, policing has become a challenge. We are using technology and modern policing to counter the activities of the anti-national elements of the neighbouring country working to destabilise our nation. We are ready for any challenge,” he said.
He also sought help of the people to eradicate the drug menace from Punjab, especially from the border belt areas. In view of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, the DIG said the police were on high alert. He urged the people to remain vigilant and inform the police if they noticed any suspicious activities in their respective areas.
Charanjit Singh joins as SSP, Amritsar (Rural)
Charanjit Singh joined as the SSP, Amritsar (Rural), here today. Earlier, he was posted as AIG (Intelligence) in Mohali.
While talking to The Tribune after taking the charge, the SSP said the Amritsar (Rural) police would continue to work with other sister agencies, including the BSF to nail drug peddlers and make society free from the scourge of drugs.
He said being a border district, drug smuggling and its rampant abuse had been a big challenge for the police apart from maintaining the law and order. Charanjit Singh had completed his IPS training in the holy city in 2014. Earlier, he served as the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police with the city police commissionerate in 2017. Before joining as the SSP Amritsar (Rural) he was posted as the AIG (Crime), AIG (Security), SSP, Jagraon, SSP, Sri Muktsar Sahib, and SSP, Moga.
