SC & BC teachers’ union elects office-bearers, calls for unity

A meeting of teachers belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Backward Class (BC) communities was held on Saturday under the leadership of Paramjit Singh Gill, Deputy District Education Officer. The gathering focused on addressing long-pending demands and also included the election of office-bearers for the district unit of the SC & BC teachers’ union.

Paramjit Singh Gill, who also serves as the patron of the district branch of the union, emphasised the urgent need to fill the backlog of promotions in these categories. He also called for the reinstatement of blocked allowances, stressing that these issues must be addressed without further delay. Teachers from across the district actively participated in the meeting, expressing solidarity and support for the union’s objectives.

During the session, Balbir Singh Dhunda was elected as district president, while Mangat Singh Kairon was chosen as general secretary. Other elected office-bearers include Amritpal Singh Bakipur (senior vice-president), Gurbinder Singh Lalu Ghumman (junior vice-president), Jaswinder Singh (senior-vice president) and Simbalpreet Singh Sahota (press secretary). Ranjit Singh Fatehabad and Rakesh Vishwakarma Dhunda were elected as treasurers.

In his address, newly elected President Balbir Singh Dhunda appealed to all SC/BC teachers to remain united and work collectively for the welfare and upliftment of their communities.
