Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsTaking suo motu notice, Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission Chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi on Monday sought a report from Amritsar Rural SSP Maninder Singh in a case involving caste-based abuse against a Scheduled Caste individual from Sarangara village, located on Ramtirth Road under the Rajasansi constituency.
Providing details, Garhi said the matter came to his attention through social media, where a video showed an individual hurling caste-based slurs at a Scheduled Caste family. Taking cognisance of the incident, the commission has initiated legal action.
“We have requested a detailed report from the SSP, Amritsar Rural, and appropriate action will be taken against the accused,” he stated.
He further emphasised that the Commission is committed to safeguarding the rights and welfare of Scheduled Caste communities in the state and strict action will be taken against anyone found promoting casteism in violation of constitutional provisions.
