School notes: Excelsum High celebrates Independence Day
Amritsar: The 78th Independence Day of India was celebrated with immense patriotic fervour by the students and staff of Excelsum High Senior Secondary School. The students expressed their love for the nation through a series of captivating dance and music performances. Dressed in the vibrant colours of the Tricolour, the students began the celebration with a medley of heartwarming patriotic songs, followed by a stirring poem recitation. Their performances echoed a deep commitment to the nation, celebrating unity in diversity and a willingness to sacrifice for the country. The celebration concluded with the National Anthem and a message urging students to embrace their roles as responsible citizens and future leaders of the nation. Director Principal Gunita Grewal, addressed the gathering, and paid tributes to the brave freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives, happiness and families for the liberty we enjoy today. She encouraged the students to stay true to their Indian roots, no matter where life takes them.
2-day workshop on Puppet Making
Khalsa College of Education, Ranjit Avenue, Amritsar, organised a two-day-workshop on “Puppet Making”. Principal Mandeep Kaur extended a warm welcome to the eminent calligraphist Sanjay Kumar. Sanjay acquainted the students with the basics of puppetry, its history and significance in education to the faculty and students. On the second day of the workshop, the students learned advanced techniques of puppetry, including puppet manipulation, voice modulation, and storytelling. The students of B.Ed and M.Ed gained hands-on experience in making puppets and using puppets as a teaching tool, she said.
Fruit-Tree Plantation Drive at GNDU
The Department of Botanical and Environmental Sciences of Guru Nanak Dev University organised a fruit-tree plantation drive. The faculty, non-teaching staff, students and research scholars of the department planted and adopted over 40 saplings of fruit trees in front of the department. The event was organised to create awareness among masses to plant fruit trees for good health, to save microbiome, birds, and insect diversity. The soil of Punjab is suitable for growth of mango, litchi, guava, pomegranate, papaya, anjeer, sapota, grapes and citrus fruit varieties. The drive will also motivate farmers to adopt sustainable agricultural practices in Punjab. Prof Rajinder Kaur explained the importance of growing fruit trees to students and research scholars. Shaukat research scholar of the department assisted the students for plantation.
Kashish, Ritish excel in B.Voc
Students of DAV College, Amritsar, are persistently getting top positions in the university merit list. In a recent development, Kashish of BVoc Financial Market management, sixth semester has bagged first position by securing 1,453 marks out of 2,100 and Ritish Bhatia has got second position in merit by securing 1,278 marks. Principal Dr Amardeep Gupta and Ullas Chopra congratulated the merit holders and applauded the efforts and hard work of the Kashish and Ritish in achieving this position.
Badminton competition
In the District Badminton Championship, Aaina Chopra, a student of St. Soldier Divine Public School, won the gold medal in the U-11 girls' doubles. The competition was held at Raizada Hansraj Badminton Stadium. Group Chairman Anil Chopra and Vice Chairperson Sangeeta Chopra appreciated her and wished her a bright future.
SLOGAN WRITING COMPETITION
An Inter-School Sahodaya Slogan Writing Competition was conducted in Swami Sant Dass Public School, Phagwara. About 45 schools participated in the event, in which among category 1, Bani Bajaj from La Blossom School bagged the first position. Armaan from Innocent Hearts School got second and Taruna from Lala Jagat Narain DAV school bagged third position. Pawani Bari from Kamla Nehru Public School got consolation prize. In category 2, Vanshika Rattu from Shri Hanumat International Public School bagged first, Mandeep Kaur from DIPS Tanda got second and Simar Rayat from Doaba Public Sr. Sec. School bagged third position and Simranjit Kaur from Cambridge International School Nakodar bagged consolation prize. The overall trophy was won by DIPS, Tanda.
Tiranga Yatra
Emm Aar International School, Adampur, is celebrating the 78th Independence Day with a 'Tiranga Yatra' on Wednesday. The procession will begin at canal (Ram Nagar Point) and proceed through MES Road, Railway Road, Main Road, ending at the Police Station, Adampur. The event will feature enthusiastic participation from students, with parents invited to join and witness this patriotic celebration.
DISTRICT SKATING CHAMPIONSHIP
Amarveer Singh, a student of of Class VIII of Swami Sant Dass Public School, won medals in skating. Amarveer Singh got gold medals in two major competitions-inline 1000 meters and 500 D inline competition. He participated in 24th District Roller Skating Championship held at Police DAV Public school, Jalandhar from July 30-31, organised by District Roller Skating Association. TNS
