Amritsar, August 2
A seminar was organised by the All India Pingalwara Charitable Society on the topic of ‘Political and social oppression and struggle against it’. The seminar was held as part of a series of programmes dedicated to the 32nd death anniversary of Bhagat Puran Singh, founder of Pingalwara, here on Friday.
Dr Inderjit Kaur, head of Pingalwara, welcomed the speakers and guests.
Eminent expert on agricultural issues and columnist Devinder Sharma explained the present state of agriculture in detail. He said a large number of farmers are committing suicide and the present government wants to eliminate the farmers and make them beholden to the big companies. In future, we will have to depend on the kindness of big companies for food and drink,” he said.
Eminent social worker Shaista Amber said the elected governments should work for the welfare of humanity and not for any particular group. She said people have to raise their voice strongly.
Addressing the seminar, civil rights activist Kavita Srivastava said that the silence will have to be broken, emphasising that people should be aware of the new laws. MLA Dr Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh attended the programme. Dr Swarajbir, while conducting the workshop, said such seminars are needed so that the coming generations can get proper guidance. — TNS
