The Municipal Corporation (MC) has once again appealed to property owners in the city to take full advantage of the One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme, under which they can deposit their pending property tax of previous years without any interest or penalty. The last date for availing this special relief is August 31 and only three days remain for the scheme to close.

Municipal Commissioner Bikramjit Singh Shergill said to ensure maximum participation, the Property Tax Department, CFC centres and zonal offices of the MC will remain open on August 30 and 31 as normal working days. This has been done to provide convenience to taxpayers who may otherwise find offices closed on weekends, he added.

Shergill explained that the Punjab Government had introduced the One-Time Settlement scheme to provide relief to citizens struggling with pending dues of property tax. The scheme covers arrears from the financial year 2013-14 onwards and offers a 100 per cent waiver on interest and penalties, provided the principal tax amount is deposited before the deadline.

He informed that earlier the deadline was fixed as August 15, 2025, but keeping in view the large number of pending cases and demands from the public, the government extended the date to August 31, 2025.

The Commissioner further said the MC has been directed to organise awareness camps across different areas of Amritsar to inform residents about the scheme. “Our aim is to ensure that no eligible property owner misses this opportunity. Daily camps are being set up in colonies and market areas where property tax staff guide people about the scheme and help them in clearing dues,” he added.

Highlighting the importance of timely payments, Shergill also reminded residents that apart from clearing old arrears under OTS, they should not forget the current year’s property tax. He said the last date to avail the rebate on property tax for the financial year 2025-26 is September 30, 2025, and taxpayers should ensure to pay before this deadline to get the benefit.

The Commissioner appealed to the residents of Amritsar to come forward in the remaining three days and settle their old dues without interest or penalty. He stressed that this was a rare chance offered by the government and urged people not to wait till the last moment.
