Several areas still waterlogged in Amritsar, raise mosquito breeding fear

Following spells of rain received in the city in the last one week, water has accumulated at several areas. These can be a probable breeding ground for mosquitoes. Officials of the health wing of the municipal corporation (MC) claim that they are conducting regular fogging in the city but residents of several areas complain that fogging vehicles are operating only on main roads.

The MC has been conducting fogging in eight wards of the city daily and the task is completed in all 85 wards in 10 days. After completing the first round, the process is repeated in the wards. Officials of the MC claimed that they have sufficient chemical for the fogging this year.

To eradicate dengue mosquito, the district administration has also given training to the MC employees to identify and destroy dengue larvae. For the prevention of dengue-malaria, the MC will work in tandem with the Health Department. Earlier, only the Health Department used to look for the larva. Now, seven Chief Sanitary Inspectors and 27 Sanitary Inspectors of MC along with their teams will issue challans to violators along with destroying the larvae.
