Several rounded up for attack on Verka police station SHO

The police have rounded up several persons for investigating in the murderous assault of inspector Amanjot Kaur, SHO, Verka police station, outside a tavern at Mudhal Village here on Friday night.
She, along with her two cops, had gone to the spot after the police got information about a clash between two groups. Amanjot Kaur suffered injuries on her head, ear and arm. She was admitted to a private hospital here.
Gurinderbir Singh Sidhu, Assistant Commissioner Police (ACP), said raids were on to arrest the remaining suspects involved in the assault. “We have identified the suspects involved in the clash and murderous assault on the SHO. Police parties are conducting raids to arrest them,” the ACP said.
The police have arrested an Army jawan, identified as Sukhjit Singh, a resident of Luddar village, in the case.
Meanwhile, Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO met the SHO at the hospital here today. Appreciating the SHO for her courage, ETO said the Punjab Government was proud of such brave and honest officials of the Police Department. He said people spoke high of her and her works during public meetings.
Yesterday, Cabinet Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal had met the SHO at the hospital. He announced Rs 51,000 award for her bravery and also declared that she would be felicitated during upcoming Independence Day celebrations. He said Amanjot Kaur would be given special promotion for her act of braver as she fought with goons.
Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said Amanjot Kaur had been working hard to make the area under her jurisdiction drug free. Since her joining as the SHO at the Verka police station she had sternly acted against drug peddlers, he said.
