SSP Deepak Pareek said the accused kept Aadhar card records of his customers and would tamper with the address and names mentioned on these to activate new SIM cards. Following which, he would put them in mobile phones and sell these to inmates of the Central Jail, Goindwal Sahib, at hefty prices. The inmates would use these for illegal activities.

Reports suggested the gang has deep roots at the state-level and some other telecom operators, too, are involved in the syndicate. The police also suspect the involvement of a woman.
