SAD (Amritsar) chief and former MP Simranjit Singh Mann accused the Narendra Modi-led government and the incumbent Akali Dal (Badal) for muzzling democracy in the country and the SGPC, respectively.

In a press release issued here on Wednesday, Mann said Sikhs had been targeted systematically by the government. Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was shot dead in Canada, and Paramjit Singh Panjwar (63), a key leader of the Khalistan Commando Force (KCF), was shot dead by two unidentified gunmen in Lahore, he added.

The democracy has not been restored in the SGPC as its general elections have not been held for the past several years, he said.

Taking a potshot at the SGPC’s administration, he questioned misappropriation of 328 saroops of Guru Granth Sahib. He said it was the result of one family’s control over a religious body of the Sikhs, which came into existence after great sacrifices.
