Punjab will emerge as medical hub: Aman Arora

Cabinet Minister and AAP Punjab chief Aman Arora said the state would emerge as a leading medical hub.

Addressing a medical workshop at Lovely Professional University (LPU), Phagwara, he emphasised the state government’s commitment to strengthen healthcare sector to ensure accessible, affordable and quality medical services for every citizen.

Highlighting one of the government’s flagship initiatives, he announced the launch of the “Health Card” scheme, under which 65 lakh families would receive cashless medical treatment benefits of up to Rs 10 lakh annually.

“The Punjab Government has allocated Rs 778 crore in the current fiscal to fund the Health Card scheme. No citizen will be deprived of medical treatment due to financial constraints,” Arora said.

He further underlined the government’s broader vision of transforming Punjab into a premier destination for medical education, healthcare services and advanced treatment facilities.

The event, organised jointly by the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences (School of Allied Medical Sciences) and the Human Resource Development Center at LPU in collaboration with the Joint Association of Independent Medical Laboratory and Allied Professionals (JAIMLAP), was titled “Decoding Diseases: Insights from Microscopic Examination”. The workshop served as a platform for in-depth technical sessions and discussions on recent advancements in diagnostic sciences.

Arora praised the leadership and contribution of JAIMLAP, especially its state president Jagdeep Bhardwaj and national general Secretary Rajan Bector, for their proactive role in strengthening the healthcare ecosystem.

LPU chancellor and Rajya Sabha MP Dr Ashok Kumar Mittal lauded the unwavering dedication of healthcare professionals, especially during the pandemic. “Healthcare workers are the unsung heroes who have consistently served humanity under the most challenging circumstances,” he remarked.

Dr Mittal announced 10 per cent additional scholarship for professionals associated with JAIMLAP wishing to pursue higher education at LPU. He also extended access to the university’s world-class facilities, including the sports complex, auditoriums, and advanced laboratories, to JAIMLAP for conducting professional training and development programmes.

The workshop witnessed participation from prominent experts including Dr Naresh Kumar, Harpreet Singh, Dr Raman and Dr Rohit Rai, who conducted detailed training sessions. The sessions covered critical aspects of modern instrumentation, diagnostic methodologies, hematological and microbiological interpretations, clinical pathology and biowaste segregation management.
