The Congress workers’ meeting held here on Monday witnessed heated exchange of words between supporters of former Deputy Chief Minister OP Soni and Amritsar Lok Sabha MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla. The meeting was held to take feedback from the Congress workers.

Supporters of both leaders had heated arguments after the name of former Deputy Chief Minister OP Soni was proposed as a candidate from Amritsar seat.

Visiting Punjab Congress affairs in-charge Devendra Yadav intervened and calmed down the workers. He made it clear that the indiscipline in the party would not be tolerated and the power to announce the names of candidates for the Lok Sabha vests with the party high command. He exhorted the party workers to work unitedly to steer the party ahead in the election. He asked them to sink their differences.

A section of leaders suggested the visiting the Congress leader to avoid an alliance with AAP as it was facing strong anti-incumbency in the state.

Among others, PPCC president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring and Leader of the Opposition Partap Bajwa were also present in the meeting.
